HVAC Zoning and its Benefits

HVAC Zoning and Its Benefits

The overwhelming majority of Atlanta-area residents could benefit from choosing HVAC zoning for their homes. Some people will appreciate the cost savings the most, while others will be happy to achieve even, consistent temperatures. Regardless of what exactly piques your interest, we encourage you to consider the benefits of zoning.

What Does Zoning Mean?

HVAC zoning involves the process of dividing up your home into special areas, called zones. Each of these areas are then heated/cooled separately. Each zone is controlled by a separate thermostat. And, and special dampers are installed within your ductwork to control the airflow to each area. By installing a zoning system, you can have control over which rooms get AC or heat and when.

If your home doesn’t have ducts, don’t worry! Ductless units can also be used to create HVAC zones as well. You can accomplish this by installing ductless systems in various parts of your house. Then, you can use those units to heat/cool specific zones. And, by purchasing a special thermostat, you’ll be able to control each zone through a smartphone app or remote.

HVAC Zoning Benefits

Saving Money. HVAC zoning can save energy, which can save you money. Since zoning eliminates the constant need to adjust the thermostat, you’ll save energy. If you have a multi-story house, you can heat and cool each level separately. And, if you rarely use certain zones, you can significantly reduce the air flowing to them. The better you can manage your HVAC, the lower your utility bills will be.

Increasing Comfort. Zoning can also improve your and your family’s comfort. You can heat certain parts of the house for those family members who are always cold, or you can also reduce the heat going to areas that get extra heat from the sun. You have many different options and several ways you can use zoning to keep you and your family comfortable.

Cleaner Air. Finally, HVAC zoning can dramatically improve the air quality indoors. Unlike traditional systems, HVACs with zoning systems cycle air through a specific zone only. This means that if allergens and contaminants enter one zone, you can get rid of them without them being deposited through the rest of the house.

Heat Pump Benefits

Benefits of Installing a Heat Pump

If you’re thinking about purchasing a new HVAC unit for your home or business, you should consider a heat pump. For many of our customers, they are the perfect alternative to a traditional HVAC unit. Heat pump benefits include the fact that they can heat and cool your home, not simply one or the other. They can be gas or electric powered, but electric-powered heat pumps are definitely the most popular. Many of our Atlanta-area customers have found that a heat pump perfectly meets their heating and cooling needs.

Before you decide to purchase a heat pump for your home, it’s important to consider the benefits of this system. We’ve put together this short list of benefits to help you decide if a heat pump is right for you.

  • Better Air Quality. Unlike most other heaters, heat pumps won’t dry the air out. This will keep you from having to run a humidifier just to stay comfortable.
  • Save $$$. Heat pumps can also help save you money each month on your bills. These systems are more energy-efficient than other HVAC units, which means they need less energy to run.
  • Increase Property Value. Since they’ve become highly-coveted in the Atlanta area, having a heat pump can increase your property value.
  • Better for Environment. Heat pumps do not rely on combustion, unlike traditional heating systems. This means they are more environmentally-friendly than their counterparts.

Heating and Cooling Installation

Installing a heat pump in your home or business could be the best HVAC-related choice you make. They can save you money every month and they are better for the environment. Furthermore, they can increase the value of your property and not dry out your air during the wintertime.

Should you get maintenance on your HVAC System

Schedule Heating and Cooling Maintenance

The Neese Jones team strongly encourages our clients to adhere to an HVAC maintenance schedule. By having semi-annual maintenance performed on your system, you can make it last much longer. You can also make sure your system is in good shape ahead of the winter and summer months.

There are several reasons why we suggest HVAC maintenance, but some are certainly worth highlighting here. We’ve put together this list of the biggest reasons why you should have your HVAC system routinely serviced.

Benefits of Routine HVAC Maintenance

  • Guaranteed Comfort. If your HVAC system isn’t properly maintained, it will have a hard keeping your home’s temperatures and humidity right where you want it. When your system is properly serviced, it’ll heat/cool your home better. This means you and your family will enjoy year-round comfort at home.
  • Improved Air Quality. Routine HVAC maintenance can also help you breathe better. During a maintenance appointment, your tech will examine and clean/replace the air filter. They will also check to see if there are any issues with the filter compartment. These checks and tasks will make sure your system filters out dirt, dust, and allergens before they enter your home.
  • Safety First. When a system isn’t properly maintained, it can become hazardous to operate. During your maintenance appointment, we’ll perform the checks and tasks necessary to keep you and your family safe.
  • Money Savings. Having your system routinely serviced can save you money in three primary ways:
    • Longer Lifespan. Well-serviced systems undergo less wear and tear, meaning they’ll last longer.
    • Fewer Major Repairs. We’ll look for and fix issues while they’re still small. When we can catch problems early, we can save you money on costly repairs.
    • Lower Your Bills. Healthy HVAC systems are also much more energy efficient. This, in turn, will lower your energy bills. During your appointment, we will:
      • Lubricate all moving parts
      • Test the system’s airflow
      • Examine your ductwork
      • Clean or change the air filter
      • Tighten all loose connections
      • Test your thermostat’s calibration
      • Test your system’s controls

Should you get HEPA Air-Filters for your Home

HEPA Filters – A Sensible Solution to Indoor Air Quality Issues

Much like outdoor pollution, indoor pollution can damage your health. Depending on your individual situation, the air inside your home can actually be worse than the air outside. Some of the worst indoor pollutants include smoke, mold spores, pollen, cleaning solutions and also animal dander. The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) even includes indoor air pollution on their list of the Top-5 environment-related health risks. As a homeowner, you can resolve most indoor air quality issues by installing an air filter. Neese Jones highly recommends installing a HEPA filter. These high-quality filters are capable of filtering both large and also microscopic particles and they’re a sensible solution to IAQ issues.

Before Purchasing a HEPA Filter for Your Home

  • Check the Size. HVAC systems require specific air filters and it’s vitally important that you purchase the correct size. If it doesn’t fit properly, it won’t be able to filter all the air before it enters your home.
  • Check the Quality. Did you know HEPA air filters are made up of three parts that balance each other to function correctly? Most filters are unbalanced. This makes it impossible for them to capture pollutants before they enter your home. Give Neese Jones a call. We can provide some suggestions and also help you steer clear of low-quality filters.
  • Check Your HVAC. If your ducts leak or your filter slot isn’t sealed properly, they can also let unfiltered air into your home. If you’re ready to address your home’s indoor air quality, give us a call. We can inspect your air filter slot and ducts and ensure they are aren’t letting unfiltered air in.
Contact Neese Jones Today

The Neese Jones’ team is here to help with all your IAQ needs. We can help you select the right HEPA air filter for your system and provide information on other IAQ solutions. Contact Neese Jones today to get started.

Should you get a Programmable Thermostat for your Home

Benefits of Installing a Programmable Thermostat

Programmable thermostats have become increasingly popular in Atlanta-area households over the past couple of decades. Homeowners all over Georgia have been discovering the numerous benefits programmable thermostats offer them and also their families. Are you primarily focused on saving money every month? Or you’re determined to improve your family’s comfort? If so there are several reasons why installing a programmable thermostat can benefit you.

6 Reasons to Install a Programmable Thermostat in Your Home

  1. Monthly Savings. Simply put, programmable thermostats have the potential to save you a lot of money over time. Think about it this way; If you’re able to raise the temp in your home by 1 degree in the summer or also lower it by 1 degree in the winter, you can save around 2% on your energy bill. If you’re able to use a programmable thermostat to raise or also lower the temperature by more than 1 degree (when you’re at work or away on vacation, or even while you’re asleep) you can save even more. Over time, the savings can really add up.
  2. Leverage Modern Technology. Modern programmable thermostats are even more advanced than you may think. These days, many programmable thermostats give homeowners the ability to manage their entire HVAC system through a smartphone application. In addition, some top-of-the-line models even have the ability to alert you to system malfunction.
  3. Reliable Temperatures. Programmable thermostats can reliably manage your home’s climate. Your programmable thermostat can easily determine the ideal time to activate the air conditioner or heater to keep temperatures exactly where you want them. You’ll never have to spend time running back and forth to the thermostat to make sure you and your family are comfortable.
  4. Coordinate Multiple Climate Zones. If your home has multiple climate zones, programmable thermostats can help you properly manage these zones.
  5. Increase the Lifespan of Your System. Since programmable thermostats help older and also newer HVAC systems run more efficiently, they can effectively extend their lifespan.
  6. Increase Your Energy Efficiency. Finally, programmable thermostats will increase your home’s energy efficiency by optimizing your heating and also your cooling system. This is good for your budget and the environment.

Overall a good experience aside from a problem with the install crew leader with a very poor attitude when it came to items that were done incorrectly or needed to be changed. The rest of the crew were hard workers, especially the ducting guys who did a fantastic job installing the ductwork. The crew leader was disrespectful, hard to work with and caused an overall bad experience. Would recommend this company with the exception of the crew leader, Kyle.UpdateI had them come back out and install a dehumidifier recently. The unit is not working as was specified by Aprilaire and the Carrier Infinity has some configurations that were causing some conflicts with the proper operation of the unit. The unit is only producing little more than half of what it is rated but Neese Jones has been sticking with it and working to try to resolve the issue. So the commitment to try to resolve the issue and go above and beyond has been a refreshing experience from others we have worked with.

I have used Neese Jones for many, many years (>10 years.) They have always been very professional and courteous, as well as performing an outstanding job! In fact, they have saved me a couple of thousand in repairs! (In my experience, They will never tell you that you need a repair when you don’t. And, this was put to the test last year: An HVAC repairman from a rival service told my mother (80) that she needed to replace and/or repair a major component of the HVAC for almost $3000. I had Neese Jones look at it and I was informed that it didn’t need to be repaired or replaced. He corrected the problem for less than $150. And, the AC continues to work very well to this day.)I highly recommend Neese Jones!

I called them concerned about a potential problem with regard to an HVAC drip tray and my concern that it might overflow and leak through the ceiling. They were very kind, responsive and professional. They came out within a couple of hours, did a careful check, and assured me that everything was in order. They did not try to take advantage of the situation by saying that the previous technician from a different company had done a bad job. I was very impressed with their integrity, responsiveness and level of professionalism. I would absolutely recommend this company. Half my neighborhood uses them and I can see why.

**2022 Update**: Just had our units go through their annual maintenance check-up and service just in time for the summer. Talk about on-time, quality work, and experienced service tech (Mike Torney) who knows our systems and has done a top-notch job for all the years we've been using Neese-Jones. Can't say enough great things about this company and its people.Neese Jones installed my units when we built our home in 1994 and have maintained them for the past 26 years. They are still going strong today, probably because of the excellent care and attention of the service techs at Neese Jones. A special shoutout to Mike Torney who has been our service tech for the majority of these years and has provided nothing but the best service one can expect. Kudos to the Neese Jones team for their equipment and service quality, knowledge, and responsiveness especially during these crazy times. We appreciated the extra cautions taken to ensure social distancing and safe practices.

After many years with many disappointing companies… Neese Jones has always solved my problems, responded quickly and with fair pricing.
