HVAC Zoning and its Benefits

HVAC Zoning and Its Benefits

The overwhelming majority of Atlanta-area residents could benefit from choosing HVAC zoning for their homes. Some people will appreciate the cost savings the most, while others will be happy to achieve even, consistent temperatures. Regardless of what exactly piques your interest, we encourage you to consider the benefits of zoning.

What Does Zoning Mean?

HVAC zoning involves the process of dividing up your home into special areas, called zones. Each of these areas are then heated/cooled separately. Each zone is controlled by a separate thermostat. And, and special dampers are installed within your ductwork to control the airflow to each area. By installing a zoning system, you can have control over which rooms get AC or heat and when.

If your home doesn’t have ducts, don’t worry! Ductless units can also be used to create HVAC zones as well. You can accomplish this by installing ductless systems in various parts of your house. Then, you can use those units to heat/cool specific zones. And, by purchasing a special thermostat, you’ll be able to control each zone through a smartphone app or remote.

HVAC Zoning Benefits

Saving Money. HVAC zoning can save energy, which can save you money. Since zoning eliminates the constant need to adjust the thermostat, you’ll save energy. If you have a multi-story house, you can heat and cool each level separately. And, if you rarely use certain zones, you can significantly reduce the air flowing to them. The better you can manage your HVAC, the lower your utility bills will be.

Increasing Comfort. Zoning can also improve your and your family’s comfort. You can heat certain parts of the house for those family members who are always cold, or you can also reduce the heat going to areas that get extra heat from the sun. You have many different options and several ways you can use zoning to keep you and your family comfortable.

Cleaner Air. Finally, HVAC zoning can dramatically improve the air quality indoors. Unlike traditional systems, HVACs with zoning systems cycle air through a specific zone only. This means that if allergens and contaminants enter one zone, you can get rid of them without them being deposited through the rest of the house.

HVAC UV Lights for Your Home

HVAC UV Lights Kill Off Bacteria and Germs

Concerned with the germs, allergens and bacteria that are floating around your home? Does your indoor air quality (IAQ) always get worse during the cooler months? If you’re on a mission to improve the air quality inside your home, consider installing a UV light. HVAC UV lights can kill off bacteria, germs, and several other harmful particulates before can they enter your home.

All our clients want to know that HVAC UV lights actually work before they have them installed. We’re here to provide you with evidence supporting UV lights, show you what’s available, and what their benefits are.

Scientific Support for HVAC UV Lights

The effectiveness of UV lights and their uses have been studied for decades. Studies show that UV lights can successfully kill off bacteria and other germs. UV lights have been used to kill off harmful viruses, mold and bacteria for well over 100 years. Hospitals, hotels, restaurants, airlines and more continue to use them to sterilize equipment and the air you breathe.

Regarding UV lights and HVAC systems, this study provides evidence supporting their use to kill a variety of airborne particulates. These studies are 2 of many. When you install an HVAC UV light, you can rest-assured they will improve the quality of your home’s air.

Who Should Use HVAC UV Lights?

Everyone can reap the benefits of using HVAC UV lights; some individuals more than others. If you have a compromised immune system or suffer from COPD, asthma or allergies, you should consider installing UV lights.

Residential HVAC UV Lights

All residential HVAC systems either use coil cleaning UV lights or air cleaning UV lights. There are several different terms that companies use to describe these lights: sterilizing, sanitizing, purifying, etc. But, all residential HVAC UV lights fall into one of these two categories.

Air Cleaning HVAC UV Lights

Air purifying UV lights only turn on when your HVAC kicks on. They are designed to kill bacteria and other particulates that are in the air before they enter your home. These lights are housed within your home’s air ducts.

Coil Cleaning HVAC UV Lights

Coil purifying lights, on the other hand, are always on. They are housed near your indoor evaporator coil and focus on keeping your HVAC’s coils free of bacteria and mold. This is the type of HVAC UV light that most homeowners choose.

More Benefits to Using UV Lights

Other than improving your home’s IAQ, UV lights have several other benefits. They can increase your energy-efficiency, lower your energy bills, make your air fresher and improve your home’s airflow.

Should you get HEPA Air-Filters for your Home

HEPA Filters – A Sensible Solution to Indoor Air Quality Issues

Much like outdoor pollution, indoor pollution can damage your health. Depending on your individual situation, the air inside your home can actually be worse than the air outside. Some of the worst indoor pollutants include smoke, mold spores, pollen, cleaning solutions and also animal dander. The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) even includes indoor air pollution on their list of the Top-5 environment-related health risks. As a homeowner, you can resolve most indoor air quality issues by installing an air filter. Neese Jones highly recommends installing a HEPA filter. These high-quality filters are capable of filtering both large and also microscopic particles and they’re a sensible solution to IAQ issues.

Before Purchasing a HEPA Filter for Your Home

  • Check the Size. HVAC systems require specific air filters and it’s vitally important that you purchase the correct size. If it doesn’t fit properly, it won’t be able to filter all the air before it enters your home.
  • Check the Quality. Did you know HEPA air filters are made up of three parts that balance each other to function correctly? Most filters are unbalanced. This makes it impossible for them to capture pollutants before they enter your home. Give Neese Jones a call. We can provide some suggestions and also help you steer clear of low-quality filters.
  • Check Your HVAC. If your ducts leak or your filter slot isn’t sealed properly, they can also let unfiltered air into your home. If you’re ready to address your home’s indoor air quality, give us a call. We can inspect your air filter slot and ducts and ensure they are aren’t letting unfiltered air in.
Contact Neese Jones Today

The Neese Jones’ team is here to help with all your IAQ needs. We can help you select the right HEPA air filter for your system and provide information on other IAQ solutions. Contact Neese Jones today to get started.

Should you get a Programmable Thermostat for your Home

Benefits of Installing a Programmable Thermostat

Programmable thermostats have become increasingly popular in Atlanta-area households over the past couple of decades. Homeowners all over Georgia have been discovering the numerous benefits programmable thermostats offer them and also their families. Are you primarily focused on saving money every month? Or you’re determined to improve your family’s comfort? If so there are several reasons why installing a programmable thermostat can benefit you.

6 Reasons to Install a Programmable Thermostat in Your Home

  1. Monthly Savings. Simply put, programmable thermostats have the potential to save you a lot of money over time. Think about it this way; If you’re able to raise the temp in your home by 1 degree in the summer or also lower it by 1 degree in the winter, you can save around 2% on your energy bill. If you’re able to use a programmable thermostat to raise or also lower the temperature by more than 1 degree (when you’re at work or away on vacation, or even while you’re asleep) you can save even more. Over time, the savings can really add up.
  2. Leverage Modern Technology. Modern programmable thermostats are even more advanced than you may think. These days, many programmable thermostats give homeowners the ability to manage their entire HVAC system through a smartphone application. In addition, some top-of-the-line models even have the ability to alert you to system malfunction.
  3. Reliable Temperatures. Programmable thermostats can reliably manage your home’s climate. Your programmable thermostat can easily determine the ideal time to activate the air conditioner or heater to keep temperatures exactly where you want them. You’ll never have to spend time running back and forth to the thermostat to make sure you and your family are comfortable.
  4. Coordinate Multiple Climate Zones. If your home has multiple climate zones, programmable thermostats can help you properly manage these zones.
  5. Increase the Lifespan of Your System. Since programmable thermostats help older and also newer HVAC systems run more efficiently, they can effectively extend their lifespan.
  6. Increase Your Energy Efficiency. Finally, programmable thermostats will increase your home’s energy efficiency by optimizing your heating and also your cooling system. This is good for your budget and the environment.

With the recent news regarding Corona virus protecting your loved ones is a priority. Your indoor air quality is a part of that. Ultraviolet germicidal lights kill, prevent and also clean the microorganisms that grow in your HVAC system.

At Neese Jones Heating and Cooling, we are proud to offer REME HALO® ultraviolet germicidal lights to our customers since it is what we choose to install in our own home to protect our families.

This is an updated review for Neese Jones. We moved into a new house and Neese Jones had to come out several times to repair several different issues with our dual fuel, multi-zone HVAC system. While it took them several trips, one of the owners eventually stepped in and got the system repaired correctly and for a reasonable cost. It means something to us when an owner will step in to make things right, and that is exactly what Mr. Neese did.

We've been fortunate to work with Neese Jones on two occasions. We first hired them to update our main system when remodeling our home in 2018/2019. They installed a new powerful Carrier unit to replace an older, less efficient furnace and in doing so identified fundamental issues with our original ductwork which they replaced almost entirely and at a highly competitive cost. Knowing that our unit upstairs (a heat pump) had only a few years left- they wisely ran gas lines in our attic so that when the day came, replacing the heat pump with a gas unit would be a breeze. We put that to the test when a month ago when the heat pump began to fail. Having benefitted from the power of the newer Carrier unit, it would have been easy and logical for them to have sold us on the same powerful unit for the upstairs. They did not - rather than try to make some extra cash - they sold us what we needed, saving us thousands. Within the week - they were here to install the new unit which involved some construction and voltage needs necessary given the new gas unit. Despite a couple of hiccups (par fo rthe course in an older home) they remained committed to getting us up and running; and did so in record time - working through the weekend on their dime. Honest, attentive and professional - from first consultation to final install ... they've earned "fan for life" status from me. Don't hesitate to hire these guys. They are top notch and you won't regret it!

Our two, 16 year old water heaters (50 gal, gas) finally broke down and starting leaking everywhere - we noticed this on Sunday evening but it likely happened earlier in the weekend. Called Neese Jones Monday morning at 8:00 and they had the two new units delivered (thanks DJ Mike!) and installed (thanks Mike T and his - unfortunately name unknown - assistant!) that afternoon. Cindy W. in the office was so helpful and friendly. We have used Neese Jones for our HVAC maintenance and installation for almost 10 years and I have never had any complaints. Service is always easy to schedule, technicians are quick but thorough and neat, and always very nice!

Called Neese Jones yesterday since the heat had shut of at night . We were told someone would come by between 11-3 pm. The technician finally turned up at 7.30 pm. In the mean while the heat had comeback on its own. He ran diagnostics and told us our damper was faulty and would need to be changed . We paid him $97 for his diagnosis .Today we got a call informing us it would be $485 parts and labor to change the damper and we gave them the go ahead since he diagnosed it as faulty. The technician comes in this evening and tells us nothing is wrong with our existing damper and charged us $85.00 for his visit today blaming us for not informing them the damper is working ! I’m not a professional and I based my decision on your diagnosis and yet you charge us for a wrong diagnosis and a unnecessary visit ! That’s just unprofessional!Update: Received a call from Mr. Neese . He heard our grievance and offered an appropriate solution . Nice to know that there are still businesses that are about service and not just profit! Updating my previous rating to 4 stars.

Monday, Dec. 28, 2020, we had a technician come out to do the winter service of our system. It's an older system so we know there will be issues. The tech must have knocked the ignitor out of position so when we turned the heat on that night it would not ignite. Called Neese Jones this morning (Dec. 29) and they answered and said they would have another tech come out that afternoon. Knowing how busy they are we appreciated their quick response. Anthony was our tech who came out today and fixed the problem. He is AWESOME! Identified the problem. Fixed it very quickly and saved us before the next blast of cold air comes through. Thank you Anthony!

We have been working with Neese-Jones for the past 2O years! They are a family business that takes pride in their work. Always on time, on budget, and they answer their phones. We have a maintenance program with them and they keep our HVAC functioning as it should...and when we have had an issue (like we all do) they are there immediately. We just had them install a tank-less water heater, and LOVE it! I HIGHLY suggest them to anyone looking for a top notch team.

I have been a customer of Neese Jones since July 2001 when they installed a brand new Trane system in my home I had just bought (16 years ago). They have always been great to work with. They provide great service at a very competitive price and they excel in all customer service areas. Mike has been coming out to my house for years to do the fall and spring service and my system has been just about maintenance free. I had just one part that had to be replaced in 16 years. I just had an A/C system installed today for my basement which only had a heating system previously. However, The main reason I am writing this post is becuase I recently realized that in 16 years of owning my home, Neece Jones is only one of two companies I deal with for my home that has the same great people and same great service. For a homeowner, it's nice to know I don't have to worry about my heating and A/C systems. Thanks!!!
