Earth Craft Energy Efficiency
In an effort to help our local communities conserve critical natural resources and live more sustainably, Neese-Jones is proud to participate in the EarthCraft regional green building program. Because energy and water efficiency are as important to cost-effective heating and cooling in Metro Atlanta as they are to the health of the wider environment, we believe we have a responsibility to maximize energy and water efficiency even as we work to improve our customers’ comfort. The EarthCraft program helps us accomplish this two-pronged goal.
What is EarthCraft?
Established in 1999 by the Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association and Southface, EarthCraft is a certification program that’s designed to ensure that residential building, renovation, community development and light-commercial projects in six states meet the standards of sustainability and minimal environmental impact. Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia offer certification through the program, addressing the climatic factors that are common to the region, such as temperature extremes and excessive humidity. The program ensures compliance in the following project areas:
- Energy consumption
- Water consumption
- Indoor air quality
- Waste management
By implementing a set of ecologically sound goals, the program makes environmental sustainability a reality for homes, multiple-family dwellings and commercial buildings in the region.
EarthCraft incorporates green building principles into every stage of each construction or renovation project, creating healthier indoor and outdoor environments while providing increased building durability and lower energy and water costs. EarthCraft projects include the following:
EarthCraft House Program
This program recognizes homes that are sourced, designed and built to reduce or eliminate the negative environmental impacts of conventionally constructed homes, bringing homeowners substantial energy savings.
EarthCraft Renovation Program
Home renovations and room additions are measured against specific performance and efficiency criteria to avoid comfort, air quality, energy cost and operational safety issues.
EarthCraft Communities Program
This program joins together with developers and governmental agencies to construct high-efficiency, low-impact homes, buildings and communities. Other related issues addressed by the program relate to open space, transit-ready density and storm water management.
EarthCraft Multifamily Program
This program, the first of its kind in the nation, makes more sustainable construction and renovation of multiple-family dwellings a reality for both affordable and market-rate housing.
EarthCraft Light Commercial Program
Designed for smaller commercial buildings, this program helps business owners achieve certification through third-party agencies that provide testing and documentation of compliance.
